Oxford 57, Carmarthen 34: The Oxford Silver Machine Academy made their home Conference League speedway debut a match to remember when dousing the fire of the Carmarthen Dragons at the Stadium on Friday night.
Oxford rose to the occasion to record their first Conference victory of the season against the bottom club.
It was no surprise that Oxford's new coach Andy Smith, riding in the Grand Prix last year, notched up an 18-point maximum.
Another feature of the meeting was the performance of Darren Andrews as the Dragons tried a golden double tactical substitution in heat 14 to try and reduce the deficit.
However, Andrews lying third spot, took both Cory Blackman and Darren Powell, the latter off the last bend, for a great victory.
Ricky Scarboro, fresh from his fine performance in the BLC against Reading last week, scored a paid 13 and Chris Johnson weighed in with paid 11.
Oxford: Smith 18, Scarboro 12+1, Johnson 10+1, Mills 9+3, Andrews 8, Barker 0, Purchase 0. 57 pts.
Carmarthen: Taylor 8, Blackman 7, Powell 6,Hatton 4, Felton 4, Gough 3, Meakins 2. 34 pts.
***OXFORD Silver Machine are at home to Peterborough next Wednesday and not away, as printed in yesterday's Sportsmail fixtures.
