A spectacular unbeaten 93 by Jason Constable sped Shipton-under-Wychwood to a seven-wicket victory at Tiddington in the Oxfordshire semi-final of the National Village Championship.
Although chasing only a modest target of 141 for victory in Sunday's clash, the reigning national champions were in trouble at 11-3, having lost the wickets of Steve Bates, Andrew Hemming and Shaun Miller.
Tiddington's opening bowlers, Neil Smith and Jack Brooks, bowled so tightly that they conceded only 28 runs from their combined total of 18 overs.
Constable was one of those to be shackled, but as soon as the change bowlers came on, he ran riot.
With Paul Hemming as his partner, Constable punished the bowling to dominate an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 132 to see Shipton home with 4.4 overs to spare.
The winning runs came from a Constable six which went through an open car window!
Earlier, Constable had played an important role with the ball, taking 2-18 in his eight overs, while seamer Paul Snell also kept it tight, returning 2-24.
At 88-2, Tiddington seemed well placed to set a challenging target, but the run-out of John Hurley, plus two quick wickets by Chris Panter, halted their progress.
In the Oxon final on Sunday, June 22, Shipton will be away to either Kidmore End or Warborough & Shillingford, whose tie was washed out.
The teams will try again at Warborough this Sunday.
