Community arts charity Fusion, based in Princes Street, off Cowley Road, is working with about 60 people to create a permanent public work of art.
The labyrinth design, called Rest Space, is being co-ordinated by artists Emily Fuller and Helen MacKeith.
It will be laid in the grounds of SS Mary and John Church, in Cowley Road. A poem written by one volunteer will be included in the design.
The churchyard, which was once a haven for drug users, is currently undergoing a regeneration project.
The path is part of the Insite project to create five major pieces of public art, to be displayed throughout Oxford.
Fusion hopes the new artwork and path will be in place by September.
