A former Cholsey United footballer's funeral took place at St Mary's Church, Cholsey, on June 5.

The church was packed with friends and relatives of Ronald "Hippy" Fox , 77, who had played for the club for many years, eventually became a manager and was a member of the committee until his death.

During the Second World War he served in the Royal Navy. After he was demobilised he started a felt roofing business which is still in existence.

Mr Fox, of Crossroads, died on May 26. He leaves wife Win, a son and daughter and four grandchildren.

His ashes are to be scattered at the football pitch and he will be remembered in memorial trophies.

His friend and former player Harry Bonner said: "He coached me and was a great character because everyone respected him."
