Oxfordshire rock group Radiohead went straight in at number one in the album charts with their new release Hail To The Thief as US band Evanescence made it two weeks at the top of the singles chart.

Radiohead are all former pupils of Abingdon School.

The album -- their sixth studio album -- outsold last week's number one, You Gotta Go There To Come Back from Stereophonics, in just seven days as the Welshmen slipped to number two.

Official sales figures for Hail To The Thief have yet to be released but according to reports it is on course to become the fastest-selling album of the year in the UK so far. Their rivals for the accolade are Coldplay, whose album A Rush Of Blood To The Head sold 270,000 copies in its first week, and Robbie Williams, whose Escapology album sold 260,000 copies.
