Oxford Cavaliers rugby league forward Darryl Griffin has been signed up by Wakefield Trinity Wildcats after two trial matches.
Caption goes hereThe 21-year-old, from Witney, impressed in his Super League debut at Widnes and backed that up last week with a strong performance in the Wildcats' 36-12 victory over Warrington Wolves.
The 6ft 3in tall, 17-stone front row forward joins the club on an 18-month full-time contract and becomes the first player from the Total RL Com Conference to be awarded a Super League contract.
The prop began his rugby league career as a winger at Oxford in 1998.
He then moved on to London Broncos Academy, where he impressed Wakefield coach Shane McNally
Wildcats' chief executive Diane Rogerson said: "We have been searching for some time for additional forward power and feel that Darryl has the size, strength and potential to quickly progress to a regular spot in the Trinity starting line-up. We are thrilled to have secured his signature."
Griffin said: "I have really enjoyed my time at the club since coming to Wakefield on trial. I have felt welcomed by everyone. The supporters are great and the coaching set-up and players are all great people to get on with."
