Woodstock Harrier Greg Dell led the local charge by finishing runner-up at the Witney Roadrunners' Delly End Dash.
Dell was right on race-winner Chris Riley's shoulder until the 5km mark.
However, he couldn't sustain his early pace in the heat, finishing 40 seconds behind Riley (Bedford & County), who took the honours in 33mins 15secs - just a minute outside Mark Flint's 2001 course record.
Dell took some consolation for his runners-up spot by forming part of the Woodstock quartet which won the team prize as teammates Bryan Vaughan, Peter George and Richard Shipway edged out home club Witney for first place.
This victory further consolidated Woodstock's lead in the Oxon Grand Prix standings.
Tony Lock (Witney RR) maintained his excellent form to finish third, while Woodstock's Vaughan continued to sweep all before him in his new Vet 50 category to clinch fifth place overall.
London Heathside's Vanessa Parry won the women's race in 40.32 for 28th overall.
But she was chased hard by Witney's Sally Pitts, who finished 14 seconds behind.
Pitts, Nicola Gomm and Jeanette Ashton took the team prize to take Witney back to the top of the Grand Prix listings as Headington failed to enter a team in this event.
