Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl, and she steps out of Barry Manilow's hit song and into a musical at the Oxford Apollo from June 24.
Barry Manilow's Copacabana the musical, was inspired by his 1978 Grammy Award-winning song.
The exotic tale of love, jealousy and murder is set in the swinging 1940s, where aspiring songwriter, Stephen, is carried back to an era where music and passion were always in fashion at the world famous Copacabana nightclub in New York city.
In his dream, Lola Lamar, a hopeful showgirl, is launched on the path to stardom as a Copa girl with the help of bartender Tony Forte. Captivated by Lola's performance, Rico whisks her away to a rival nightclub, making his girlfriend Conchita seethe with jealousy.
