I read with interest the comments regarding air quality in some areas of the city centre (Oxford Mail, June 16).
I am lucky enough to have to venture into town only on Saturdays with my two sons and, to be honest, that visit is enough.
I walk down High Street, Queen Street and St Aldate's and all I see is buses with the engines running, churning out fumes from three-inch exhaust pipes.
I thought I had read that the bus drivers were under orders to turn off their engines when stationary at stops.
I have seen them ignoring this rule on numerous occasions.
I thought the wonderful Oxford Transport Strategy was supposed to reduce congestion and improve the city centre for pedestrians.
From what I have seen, it has become an extended bus park that must look so attractive for visitors from other parts of the UK and abroad.
I have lived in Oxford all my life and like the city, but with the current bus congestion, I am glad that I don't have to visit too often.
