Police are linking a robbery to five others targeting elderly people in Oxford.

A bag was snatched from the basket of a woman's bicycle as she cycled in Osler Road, Headington, at 9am on June 19.

But, for the first time in the spate of violent thefts, the victim was not a pensioner.

The 42-year-old woman was not hurt.

After the robbery, the youth, who was riding a bicycle, made off towards The Croft.

Dc Roy Thornton, of Oxford police, appealed for people in the area to check their gardens for the woman's discarded bag.

The robber has previously attacked women in their 70s and 80s.

Two of the victims suffered broken bones after being pushed over during the robbery.

An 82-year-old woman is recovering from a hip replacement operation, after suffering a broken hip during a robbery on June 16, in Cuckoo Lane, Headington.

An 83-year-old woman, whose elbow was broken in a robbery in Meadow Lane, east Oxford, on June 9, said: "This sort of person should be given a taste of their own medicine."

The robber is white, slightly built, and aged 16 or 17.
