Teachers at an Oxford school that is due to close have organised a series of events to remind people of its strengths.

The first was an event in which pupils enjoyed Speedwell First School's impressive grounds in Littlemore.

Throughout the school's history, teachers have organised activities outside to challenge the children and encourage them to study their environment.

Acting headteacher Alfie Hay said: "You can imagine how everyone who is close to the school is upset and sad at this closure.

"However, we are trying to organise a series of events which highlight what is good about it."

The series of events will culminate in a pageant entitled Flower of Littlemore, which will cover the 100 years there has been a school at the Sandford Road site.

Each class has adopted a period of history to be acted out on the school grounds on July 9.
