Welsh National Opera arrive for a summer season at the Oxford Apollo next week, with three lavish productions.
Puccini's ultimate heart-breaker, La Bohme, will be performed alongside one of Mozart's best-loved operas, Don Giovanni.
There's also a rare opportunity to see Handel's famous last oratorio, Jephtha, as a fully staged production.
Jephtha, completed in 1751, retells the Old Testament story of a man driven out of his own country, but who returns to deliver his people from enslavement by making a naive vow with God. His promise is to sacrifice the first person he sees on his return. His daughter, Iphis, is the first to greet him.
Jephtha is a co-production with English National Opera.
Mozart's timeless masterpiece, Don Giovanni, is based on the legend of Don Juan, the famous seducer from whom no woman is safe.
One of the most effective tear-jerker operas and a major favourite with audiences worldwide, Puccini's La Bohme is a story of love and tragedy surrounding the lives of four young, impoverished Parisian students.
The Oxford Apollo, George Street, Oxford. Jephtha is on July 1 and 4 at 6.30pm. Don Giovanni is on July 2 and 5 at 7.15pm. La Bohme is on July 3 at 7.15pm. Tickets £8-49. Box office: Ticketmaster on 0870 606 63500.
