An American woman who came to Didcot 14 years ago has opened her own hairdressing salon.
After leaving Didcot Sixth Forms, Mary Ann Gaskell, began her career at a salon barely 100 yards from where she has now taken over what was formerly Bubbles salon in lower Broadway. She has relaunched the salon as Red Code Hair.
Mrs Gaskell, 26, worked at an Oxford salon for two years and after a spell selling make-up and sun tan lotion, she spent five years at a salon in Abingdon.
A senior stylist, Mrs Gaskell said: "I have always wanted a chance to go it alone with my own business."
She saw an opportunity when Bubbles closed in May, although she said she has only achieved her ambition with the help and support of her husband, family and friends.
As well as a salon staff of four, a manicure and pedicure service is provided by Monique Kingston.
Despite nearly a dozen other hairdressers in the town, Mrs Gaskell said she was confident about the future.
