Museum staff are encouraging children to dance their way through the past when the school holidays begin.

It is one of a series of events organised for young people, including puppetry, creative writing and crafts, once term ends on July 18.

All activities are free and led by local artists.

On July 23, youngsters are invited to a workshop at the Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock, called Dancing Through the Museum.

It is aimed at boys and girls aged between eight and 12 and will use objects and exhibits to inspire creative dance.

The activity runs from 10am to 3pm, with a performance for parents and friends at 2.45pm.

Museum Mosaic Making Magic is the next activity day on August 6, for children aged between eight and 13.

The following day, children aged from seven to 11 will be given the chance to perform stories with shadow puppets from the Oxfordshire Museum's collection.

The final event at the museum is on August 13. Digital Scraps involves children in the creation of then-and-now scrapbooks using computers, photography and objects.

Meanwhile, two drop-in sessions inspired by the MG car company, will be staged at the Abingdon Museum on August 9 and 23.

For children who want to tap their literary talent, two creative writing sessions are scheduled at Witney Library on August 12 and 19 from 2-4pm.

Young people will use sculpture and art to conjure up stories and poems.
