Witney MP David Cameron has been appointed shadow deputy leader of the House of Commons in a shadow cabinet reshuffle by the Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith.
Mr Cameron, who lives at Dean, near Chipping Norton, was elected as an MP in the 2001 General Election.
He will act as deputy to Eric Forth.
Mr Cameron was a special adviser at the Treasury and the Home Office during the Major government in the early 1990s.
He said: "I am very pleased. This is the first step on the ladder. My job will be all about the House of Commons' procedures."
