A teenager has been suspended from a Catholic school in Oxford after he threw a pair of scissors at a fellow pupil.
The 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was suspended from Cardinal Newman Middle School, in Cricket Road, for four days after he injured the boy, also aged 13.
The incident happened last Friday, when the victim was hit by scissors which had been thrown across a classroom.
He was treated for a minor flesh wound at the school.
Police were called to the school, although no charges have been brought.
Oxfordshire County Council education officer John Mitchell described the event as an accident and said: "The school dealt with it with a four-day exclusion on the pupil who threw the scissors, in accordance with disciplinary procedures.
"Schools have a range of sanctions to deal with inappropriate behaviour.
"By excluding a pupil, it sends a powerful message to them and the whole school community that this is a serious matter and that for a brief period of time this pupil is not wanted at the school."
