A man who crashed his car into another vehicle when almost two times over the drink driving alcohol limit has been jailed for four months.
Robin Price, 35, of Green Hill, Oxford, admitted driving with excess alcohol, driving dangerously and failing to stop after an accident, when he appeared at Oxford Crown Court on June 30.
Cathy Olliver, prosecuting, said the accident happened on the B480 Watlington Road near the Grenoble Road roundabout on the edge of Oxford on April 28 when Price's car struck an oncoming car.
His vehicle careered 25 metres through the air before coming to rest in a hedge.
Matthew Stacey, who was driving the other car, and his passenger were both injured. Mr Stacey suffered a fractured pelvis, a broken leg and a broken arm, and a dislocated elbow. He spent several weeks in hospital recovering from his injuries.
Ms Olliver said a witness saw Price running from the scene of the crash. He caught up with him and persuaded him to stay until police arrived.
Officers carried out a breath test which showed Price had 63mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.
David Rawlings, defending, said Price had drunk about four pints of beer. He said his client accepted he was driving too fast and that a custodial sentence was deserved.
Judge Anthony King sentenced Price to four months in prison and disqualified him from driving for three years.
