Town councillors are opposing plans to pedestrianise the High Street in Witney.
Earlier this year, a transport strategy was produced by the county council, town council and West Oxfordshire District Council.
Three options were proposed for the High Street. These included pedestrianisation, except for bus access, making pavements wider and banning traffic from turning left from Corn Street and right from Welch Way, or leaving it as it is. The Market Square was pedestrianised about 15 years ago, but proposals to pedestrianise the High Street have always been rejected.
Work on two major relief roads in the town, at Cogges and West End, have also been delayed -- with no indication of when work might start.
Witney mayor David Harvey said: "We are strongly against any form of pedestrianisation in the town centre.
"We would like to see a further river crossing installed and the effects of this on traffic in the town properly monitored and assessed."
Town councillors have also resolved to continue their opposition to plans for a supermarket at the town's former football ground at Marriotts Close.
Mr Harvey added: "There are more pressing requirements for the use of this site for the people of Witney and the surrounding area."
