Ask most people about Canada's contribution to the world of music, and they'll probably mention Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, and possibly Rush, before grinding to a halt.
But this huge slab of lakes, forests and prairies has also spawned a performer frequently referred to as one of the finest guitarists in the world, Amos Garrett.
On July 7, he can be found on the Cowley Road, headlining the Monday Night Blues at The Bullingdon.
Described by Guitar Player magazine as 'one of the most lyrical and original guitarists playing today', he is a highly-individual artist who deserves to be better known.
Amos, so they say, plays better one-handed on an off-night than most guitarists put together.
He has recorded with more than 150 artists, from Jesse Winchester to Stevie Wonder, Emmylou Harris to Bonnie Raitt, and Todd Rundgren to Martin Mull.
Rarely performing without his backing band - the Eh? Team (geddit?), the renewed interest in Garrett's work is also a result of his own recordings. His long-term relationship with Stony Plain Records, based in Edmonton, on the Canadian plains, has created seven remarkably different albums.
Unless you're a frequent visitor to the foothills of Turner Valley, Alberta, this is the perfect chance to catch a hugely innovative musician.
Entry is £5. Box office 01865 244516.
