The Old Gaol Theatre Company is staging a production of Tom Stoppard's play Arcadia, in Abingdon.

The plot switches between the present and the 19th century, following the fortunes of a young mathematics prodigy and considering issues of art, science and history.

The production is at the Unicorn Theatre, Thame Street, until July 12, at 7.30pm. Box office 01235 537577.

What makes a kite fly? For the answer, breeze along to the Pitt Rivers Museum on July 5, between 1-4pm.

Staff will be making kites with families who drop in for the free event, part of the museum's Pitt Stops sessions, held on the first Saturday of each month.

Visitors to the museum in Parks Road, Oxford, can view kites on display and have the chance to make ornamental kites, some of which may just fly.

Opera fans are packing their picnics and waterproofs and

heading off for the Opera Anywhere Proms.

This year's musical programme includes scenes from Cosi Fan Tutte, The Elixir of Love, Orpheus and Euridice, Samson and Delilah, The Bear and West Side Story.

The evening kicks off with the Clarendon String Quartet and finishes with some Gilbert and Sullivan favourites. Accompaniment is provided by pianist Peter Cowdrey.

The next performance is on July 5 at 7.30pm, in the grounds of Cogges Manor Farm Museum, Witney. The production then heads to the River Cherwell, St Hilda's College, Oxford, on July 12, Oxfordshire Museum Gardens, Woodstock, on July 19, and the Unicorn Theatre, Abingdon, on August 1-2.
