Oxford United assistant manager David Oldfield says that Chris Hackett's late equaliser at York was reward for his recent hard work and patience.
Chris Hackett Hackett finished neatly with just five minutes remaining to give United a 2-2 draw after being largely outplayed.
The goal maintained United's impressive record of just one league defeat this season, and for Hackett, it could prove to be a big moment.
The 20-year-old has been on the bench for all 15 of United's league games this season, but has played for just 62 minutes as a substitute.
And Oldfield says it is Hackett's impressive attitute that gave him his chance.
"Chris Hackett has come on in recent games and caused problems for teams," Oldfield told the United website.
"He came on with a good attitude and in recent weeks has looked very sharp in training, with some great finishing and crossing.
"He deserved a goal."
Oldfield echoed the thoughts of boss Ian Atkins in that the U's were fortunate to come away with a point, but he saluted the team's character.
"The response from the lads in the second half was good after a poor first half. That augurs well for the future because last year we might have lost it, but we have got characters in the side and it could be a valuable point.
"It turned into a battling performance in the end, and we had to rely on Chris's great finish to help us out."
