Hellenic round-up: Andy Slater, the former Carterton manager who took over at Abingdon before Christmas, was out of luck on his return in Saturday's well-contested Premier Division encounter.
Neither side played particularly well, but it was Carterton's front men of Kenny Clark and Paul Sherwood who made the difference in the first half.
Twenty minutes into the game, Sherwood weaved his way past three defenders inside the visitors' box to slide the ball across the six-yard line where Clark made no mistake.
Both keepers were tested in the second period, but neither side could find another breakthrough.
Henley Tn 0,
Didcot Tn 1
DIDCOT put their recent slump behind them and started the New Year on a winning note with a hard-earned victory at Henley.
After three consecutive defeats, Didcot made all the early running and Henley keeper Stuart Gosby was constantly in the thick of the action, saving smartly from Andy Parrott.
Andy Marriott, who had returned to the club the previous day from Oxford City, also went close, before Gosby then denied Ian Concannon and Terry Morrisey.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Didcot enjoying most of the possession.
Concannon volleyed straight at Gosby and Parrott nodded another effort over, before the visitors grabbed the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute.
Marriott flicked the ball to Concannon who drove forward and crossed perfectly to Jamie Heapy, who made no mistake from five yards.
Morrisey was denied by a stunning double save by Gosby with five minutes remaining.
Chipping Norton Tn 3,
Shortwood Utd 1
CHIPPY got back to winning ways after groundsman Trevor Smart managed to get the pitch in a playable state after overnight snow and frost.
It was the visitors who took the lead on seven minutes when a deep cross from Chippy 'old boy' Gareth Davies saw Peter Ralph head in from close range.
Chippy notched a deserved equaliser on 34 minutes. An inch-perfect cross from man-of-the-match Matthew Jeffery gave Mark Odom the chance to head in his 14th goal of the season.
Shortwood missing a glorious opportunity to take the lead before the break, and Chippy made them pay on 54 minutes. Once again Jeffery was the provider, squaring the ball to Leon Canning, who volleyed past former Chippy keeper Ewen Prentice.
The home side wrapped up the match in the 74th minutes when good work from Canning sent Robbie Wyatt through on goal and he calmly scored from a tight angle for his 16th of the season.
