A workshop on domestic violence and family and mental health is being set up in Oxford so police, health staff and volunteer groups can improve their services.

It forms part of a campaign to raise awareness of the high number of domestic violence incidents in the city. Thames Valley Police has said it receives more than 100 calls per month relating to incidents of domestic violence in Oxford alone.

Oxfordshire Women's Aid hopes mental health workers and others who take part in the workshops in March will be able to better understand the needs of victims. Project manager for Oxfordshire Women's Aid Linda Manning, who has 15 years experience of working in the field, will run the workshop. She said: "It will also enable participants to explore the role of their specific agency and develop their confidence and skills when working with these issues."
