Greyhound trainer Kelly Mullins is quitting his post at Oxford to join south coast track Hove.

It's no real surprise that he is moving on as he comes from a family with a long tradition in greyhound racing.

His late father, Pat, was a top trainer and his mother Linda was champion trainer, while his brother John is a big name at Wimbledon and his other brother David trains at Romford.

To complete the set, his aunt, Jean Chappelle, was a trainer at Oxford in the 1960s and 70s.

Kelly, like the rest of the family is just as ambitious, and his spell at Cowley was no more than a stepping stone on his way to the top.

Mullins, who takes up his new position on February 2, said: "This opportunity gives me the chance to progress in my career. I am really excited about joining such a prestigious track, although I have had a great time at Oxford."

His range of 52 hounds will not all be going to Brighton, so expect a few to be taken up by Oxford trainers.

With so many greyhounds at Oxford, it's highly unlikely that Mullins will be replaced.
