Hooligans caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a sports pavilion.

During the Christmas break, hooligans struck four times at the changing rooms in Sunderland Drive, Bicester, breaking through metal shutters, smashing toilets, basins and interior doors, wrecking a small kitchen, and pulling tiles off the wall.

Two of the incidents happened on the same day. Bicester Town Council, which owns the property, believes repairs could cost £4,000.

The council was forced to pay out a similar amount last June after vandals got in through the roof.

Council leader Lawrie Stratford, pictured, said: "I can't quantify how angry I am -- for the players and people who want to use the facilities.

"I'm frustrated because on one hand young people say there is nothing to do, and yet a small minority cause wanton, mindless vandalism, depriving their peers."

The changing rooms, which are used by men's teams and children who play for Highfield Boys' Football Club, could be out of action for several weeks.

Club manager Branislav Govorusa called for CCTV cameras to be installed.

He said: "The whole kitchen area is wrecked.

"It was used by parents to make tea and coffee to raise money for individual teams.

"I don't know what's going to happen."

Insp Ray Howard said: "Reducing burglary is our force priority this year. Incidents such as those that occurred in Sunderland Drive over the festive period are a good example of the types of crime we are targeting."

Vandals also smashed the window of the One Stop Shop in nearby Hart Place on December 27, or early the following day. A temporary repair was damaged days later.
