I feel I must write to you to express my utter disbelief that the fire alarm incident at the Ozone Cinema in Oxford on Saturday was thought to warrant headlines (Oxford Mail, January 5).

Where did you find those people who thought it was "disgraceful etc etc"?

I was at the cinema with my wife, watching Love Actually. . .

It was soon apparent to us and the majority of people there that it was a malfunction, just one of those things that crops up in new buildings.

No-one panicked, no-one was hurt. It wasn't raining.

In fact, it was quite mild for a January evening.

People made their way to the front of the building, orderly, no fuss, just chattering normally, joking what a time for it to happen during a good part of whatever film they were watching.

My only crisis was that the Coca Cola drink I was holding was making my hand cold.

In fact, all was not lost because we met a cousin and her husband whom we hadn't seen for some time, so it was good to catch up.

I thought the manager, Trevor Bennett, handled himself well, considering all the questions being put to him.

His only fault was not using a loud hailer, but then he would have been in disgrace for shouting at people.

We accepted the offer of tickets for another evening and that was it.

Nothing to worry about. No problem.

The new complex, including the stadium, is brilliant, state-of-the-art, comfortable and beating hands down anything within a 50-mile radius of Oxford.

At last, we Oxonians have something to be proud of, somewhere we can go to in our own city, something we can enjoy.

Let's be positive for once and get on the side of something good in our city.

Support Mr Kassam and leave the moaners and knockers to get a life.
