Plans to save money by closing Burford Visitor Information Centre have been rejected.
West Oxfordshire District Council is looking at a range of cost-cutting measures because of shortfalls on its cash investments.
Among the suggestions from members of the finance scrutiny committee was closing the Burford Visitor Information Centre, moving the centre in Chipping Norton from the Guildhall to commercial premises and relocating the Witney centre from the Market Place to the council's Town Centre Shop.
The committee also suggested returning the running of Cogges Manor Farm Museum to the county council.
Cabinet members rejected closing any of the information centres, but are considering the future of the museum.
Running the information centres costs about £300,000 a year and the museum £200,000. Councillors are being asked to cut £40,000 from this £500,000 outlay. Tourism in west Oxfordshire generates around £120m a year and employs about 3,000 people.
Finance director Vic Allison said: "There will not be any closures of the centres this coming year but we will be looking at radical options. Stratford and South Warwickshire councils have set up a separate company to promote tourism which generates income from tourist attractions and providers of accommodation to promote and market them."
He added the council would extend the museum's lease for another year, but expected the county council to make a bigger contribution.
Mr Allison is looking for savings of £600,000 for the next financial year and is advising councillors to come up with a short-term and long-term strategy. Low interest rates means less income to support its services.
