Women's indoor league

Rover Oxford Ladies are facing the threat of relegation from National Indoor League Division 1 North after losing all four of their opening matches in Sheffield over the weekend.

In the first game on Saturday, Rover were walloped 11-2 by Bradford.

Rover actually led 2-0 with goals from Laura Gorick and Ruth Tuthill.

But Bradford drew level by half-time, before racing away in the second half.

Later that day, Rover produced an improved display in going down 8-5 to Leicester.

They again took an early lead with goals from the in-form Gorick and Roz Bray.

However, Leicester's penalty corner routines yielded three goals and with two well-taken strikes in open play they went 5-3 ahead at the interval, with Emily Malden pulling a goal back from an acute angle.

The second half again saw Leicester produce some clinical finishing and, despite goals from Lisa Deller and Gorick, Rover couldn't halt the East Midlands side.

On Sunday, Rover were unable to stop the rot as they crashed 7-1 to last year's relegated Premier League team Sutton Coldfield.

Sutton scored twice in the first half, before stepping up a gear after the break.

Skipper Kim Cook provided Rover's consoaltion goal.

In the afternoon, Rover produced some of their best hockey against the unbeaten Aldridge, forcing no fewer than 12 penalty corners, before going down 4-2.

Aldridge took their chances in the first half to lead 3-0.

In the second half, Rover pulled two goals back through Bray and Lorraine Furney, and they looked to be in the ascendancy when Liz McVey harshly received a yellow card with five minutes left.

Reduced to four outfield players, Rover struggled to contain Aldridge, who extended their lead with a penalty corner in the last minute.

With only one team relegated, Rover will need to pick up a couple of wins next weekend to retain their National League status.

IN outdoor action, Oxford Hawks 2nd lost 4-2 to West Witney, goals coming from Jo Tolson and Emma Batten.

Hawks 3rd lost 6-1 to West Witney 3rd, with Rachel Williams netting.
