A body found on Sunday (January 11) between Bloxham and Barford St John is thought to be missing Banbury man Peter Flood.
The body was found by a man walking his dog.
Mr Flood, 62, disappeared from his home in Byron Road, Banbury, on Wednesday (January 7).
Formal identification of the body and a post mortem were expected to take place today (January 13).
Police had appealed for information about Mr Flood, saying they were concerned for his welfare as he had not gone missing before.
