Radley veteran Kay Reynolds narrow missed out on taking gold in the senior women's South of England Pentathlon Championships at Bedford.

Kay ReynoldsReynolds missed out on first place by just 61 points, amassing 3,203 over the five events.

She produced a solid set of performances, beginning with a time of 8.25secs in the 60m.

Reynolds then went on to clock 8.91secs in her strongest event, the 60m hurdles, before clearing 1.52m in the high jump, recording 4.67m in the long jump, and throwing 8.94m in the shot.

There was, however, disappointment for Gemma Byrne, who was forced to withdraw from the competition after suffering a hamstring injury in the 60m, but Lucy Boggis claimed a silver in the under 17 competition.

Radley also entered two men in the competition, with Steve Wren and Ben Owen amassing 2,922 and 1,997 points respectively

Witney Roadrunners' juniors put in some strong performances at Bedford, with under 17s Sam Hook and Adam Miles battling for club supremecy.

The pair produced a string of impressive performances, with Miles finishing just ahead of his teammate in tenth place.

Mills set a new under 17 club record with 2,302 points from his five events, with Hook just 66 behind in 12th.

Mills's final attempt in the long jump took him to 5.02m to set the new mark.

Hook's best result came in the shot, where he threw a superb 10.19m to set a personal best.

The other Witney athlete competing was Sven Bayliss, taking part in his first competition. He finished 11th overall in the under 15 boys' competition, improving his own club record in the 60m hurdles to 11.24secs.

He also threw 7.67m in the shot and clocked 9.06secs in the 60m, before finishing with a leap of 3.91m in the long jump and 1.40m in the high jump.
