Work has begun on a £2.2m scheme to upgrade Witney sewage treatment works.
The project is due to be completed at the end of March, and will improve the quality of treated water which eventually discharges into the River Windrush, as well as help reduce smells from the site.
New equipment is being installed as part of the treatment process to remove phosphorous. Improvements are also being made to handle increased sludge produced by the new process.
The scheme will also ensure the site is equipped to deal with an expected population rise and new housing developments in the Witney, Crawley, Curbridge, Hailey and Brize Norton areas.
Project manager Simon Tiedeman said: "The scheme will have considerable environmental benefits and will ensure the site meets new effluent discharge guidelines which come into effect from April."
