A motorcyclist was being treated for multiple injuries in Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital after a crash which closed the A44 at Yarnton, north of Oxford.
The rider of a Yamaha 750 trail bike, a local man in his 40s who has not been named, was being operated on for injuries to his legs after being in collision with a Volkswagen Golf on January 16.
A police spokesman later said that the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, as first feared, but were still serious.
His condition was yesterday evening described as "stable".
The incident took place shortly after 11.30am, resulting in the road being closed for about an hour.
Witnesses are asked to call Sgt Adrian Wappner on 0845 8505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
