Oxford City 2, Barking 1
Oxford City ended their home hoodoo in Ryman Division 1 North on Saturday by overcoming a spirited Barking side who belied their bottom of the table position.
It was City's first win at Court Place Farm since the opening day of the season.
Both sides missed chances to go in front in the first half. Neil Crosby and Chris Harper went close for City, while Martin Brown was handily placed to clear a goalbound strike from Anthony Read at the other end.
After the break, Jay Devereux powered in an effort that keeper Steve Benbow did well to push away for a corner.
Six minutes later, City went ahead. Justin Lee, in his final game before leaving to join Banbury United, found Jemaine Ferreira who lobbed keeper Marc Fay.
Substitute Danny Wise made it 2-0 when his shot was spilled by the keeper and went over the line.
On 76 minutes, Barking's persistence was rewarded with a goal by Greg Thompson, whose wind-assisted effort dipped wickedly under the bar.
Oxford C: Benbow, Cruse, Ballard, Antonowicz, Brown, Shepherd, Lee (Smillie 82), Lewis (Wise 50), Prescott (Ferreira 50), Harper, Crosby. Subs not used: Whitehead, Park.
Referee: J Williams (Waddesdon).
OXFORD City Reserves won 1-0 at Carshalton Athletic in the Suburban League with a goal from Kenny Hale.
