Wembley 1,
Abingdon Tn 0
Abingdon's troubles deepened as Wembley completed a Ryman Division 2 double over Paul Berry's outfit.
Town, playing their first game since Boxing Day, started well and should have taken the lead on 12 minutes when Danny Clarke raced onto an excellent ball from Mark Scanes, only to be denied by Wembley's keeper.
It was all Town, but they couldn't score.
At the other end, Town's defence was seldom troubled by Wembley, with the returning Roger Charles marshalling the back line superbly.
Abingdon keeper Gordon Hearmon then made a great block to keep out Shelton.
In the 37th minute, Clarke was unlucky after a mix-up between Peters and one of his defenders almost let him in again.
After the break, Wembley emerged the stronger, and after 49 minutes they took the lead through Shelton.
On 73 minutes, Town had a golden chance to salvage a point, but Luke Beauchamp blasted over after good work from Scanes and Clarke.
MARK Melrose suffered a broken leg during Abingdon reserves' 0-0 draw with Hillingdon Borough at Culham Road in Suburban League North. Alwyn Thomson was sent off after just 17 minutes.
