Former Oxford City midfielder Justin Lee has admitted it took a lot of soul-searching before he decided to make his move to Banbury United.

Lee played his last game on Saturday when he helped Andy Sinnott's side break their home Ryman League Division 1 North hoodoo with a 2-1 win over Barking before signing for the Dr Martens Eastern Division outfit.

And he will make his debut for Kevin Brock's side in tonight's Daventry Charity Cup home tie with Crick United.

Lee, 29, whose father, Paul, quit as City boss last month, said he had relished his second spell at City, having moved there after a two-year stint at Thame United.

"I did enjoy my time at City," he said. "I used to get a bit of stick from the supporters because of what was going on with my father - so I won't miss that!

"I helped them win the Division 1 title. And we had some good cup runs.

"I have massive respect for Kevin and what he has done in the game and what he has achieved at Banbury.

"They are a big club and have a lot of ambition. I just felt I needed a new challenge. It's a league which I have never played in before.

"But I also have the utmost respect for Andy (Sinnott). I think City are definitely going in the right direction.

"Those two years at Thame gave back my enthusiasm for the game," said Lee, who was forced to give up the professional game after breaking a leg while playing for Arsenal's youth team, where he was captain.

He said: "I have not moved to Banbury purely for the money - both teams pay their players. It was a very difficult decision to leave."

Brock said: "Justin is someone I have been trying to get since I took over at Banbury.

"He is a quality player and one of the best midfielders in the county. We are trying to progress and that was a big factor in him coming here."
