AFC Wallingford 1,

Didcot Tn 2

A brace from hot-shot Ian Concannon fired Didcot Town into the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Trophy after victory over their local rivals at the Hithercroft last night.

But it wasn't easy, with only a brilliant save from Jeff Simmonds from Gary Stevens denying Wallingford a draw.

In front of a bumper crowd of more than 350, the home side took the lead in only the second minute, when Wallingford's keeper Paul Strudley miskicked a clearance straight to Concannon, who scored with ease.

Five minutes later, Town's Andy Parrott flicked on a free-kick, only for defender Paul Bedwell to shoot wide.

Concannon scored his second of the contest on 15 minutes, volleying home an excellent cross from former Oxford United defender Paul Powell.

Wallingford reduced the arrears through Ray Spence, and then Paul Hannigan fired over.

Didcot suffered a major blow in the 28th minute when skipper Andy Cooper suffered a bad ankle injury.

Stuart Beavon headed over after good work from Hannigan, with Derek Simpson also going close.

Wallingford continued to attack in the second half with Simpson shooting wide, before Didcot keeper Jeff Simmonds made a great stop from Beavon.

Simpson went close with two long-range efforts, and a Bradley Ward free-kick was cleared by Parrott.

However, Didcot should have sealed it when Powell just failed to get on the end of substitute Mike Ford's cross.
