A developer is urging West Oxfordshire District Council to back a housing scheme it says received "overwhelming" public support.
Kidlington-based housebuilder JA Pye (Oxford) is calling on the council to listen to residents' views about its proposed development in Shipton Road, Woodstock.
People gave comments at an exhibition on the plans organised by Woodstock Town Council on Friday and Saturday (January 16-17).
JA Pye planning director David Coates said: "Almost 90 per cent of the comments made in response to our questionnaire were in favour of our proposal.
"Our results are consistent with those obtained by the town council when residents were asked in November last year to express a preference for the various sites being promoted."
He added the company wanted the council to reflect local views from Woodstock at the forthcoming public inquiry into the draft Local Plan for the district.
"Local choice is a key theme in Government planning policy and local choice in Woodstock is clearly for our scheme," he said.
Pye's plans for 60 new houses is a smaller alternative to a Persimmon Homes project for 180 houses in Oxford Road, Woodstock.
Persimmon's housing scheme, which was proposed in the Local Plan, met fierce opposition from residents who said it would swamp Woodstock and put too much pressure on existing services.
The inquiry is scheduled to start on July 6.
