Berinsfield duo Callum Andrews and Richard Tyler both emerged with wins from the club's first excursion of the New Year to Reading on a night when the Oxfordshire gym could easily have swung more verdicts from the judges.

Andrews had the upper hand from the start in his clash with Kingswood's Gary Coles, with his extra determination more than a match for his taller opponent.

Tyler got the nod over Marvels Lane rival Billy Hudd in a battle between two pint-sized terriers who traded blows continuously for three rounds.

Tyler's superior defence and greater accuracy proved decisive in claiming the split decision.

Jye Holland was unlucky to emerge on the wrong side of the verdict from his clash with Billy Smith, also from London's Marvels Lane gym.

He showed greater confidence as the bout progressed, but a last-ditch rally edged the Londoner ahead.

Robbie Wright took on Walcot's Jake Sheppard in the bout of the night as the two determined 15-year-olds traded non-stop punches for three absorbing rounds, with the Swindon lad's extra experience giving him the edge.

A similar outcome followed in the clash between Josh Best and Sonny Jury from the host gym.

The Berinsfield teenager's best work came during the middle round when his jab was at its most fluent, but the Reading youngster seemed to have more in reserve during the final period to clinch the decision.
