The campaign for a school crossing on a busy road in Wantage has gained all party support on the Vale of White Horse District Council -- and now the county council will be urged to take action.
Conservatives Pam Westwood and Ginny Stock called on the council to ask the county for a safe crossing at Charlton Road, to help pupils at the King Alfred School east site cross the road during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
The call was supported by Liberal Democrat Jim Moley, who persuaded the county to agree to a new crossing by last autumn.
But the plans were postponed until later this year, due to lack of funds.
Mrs Westwood said: "Since the closure of the Garston Lane Primary School there is no safe crossing or a crossing patrol person.
"I fear there may be an accident soon, especially with winter darkness and bad weather conditions."
She said she was particularly concerned that the danger would be in- creased by extra traffic when work started on a new development in Garston Lane.
Mr Moley also highlighted the shortage of crossing patrol workers and appealed for volunt- eers.
