Chris Boswell appears to have lost his sense of humour and not appreciated my 'tongue in cheek' comments about Cornmarket Street, Oxford (Oxford Mail, January 17).
Before he accuses me of not being concerned about Rose Hill, I would like to ask what he has done to get councillors and others to take note of the years of neglect of the estate he describes?
Before I was elected chairman of the Tenants and Residents' Association, I brought to the notice of Councillor John Tanner, when he was leader of the Labour group, the poor state of Rose Hill with photographs taken around the estate.
We got the support of the Oxford Mail under the slogan 'Fair Deal for Rose Hill', highlighting the council's neglect of their housing, the infrastructure and the lack of amenities compared with other council estates.
Since the city council started monthly area meetings, I have attended every one, taking the opportunity to raise Rose Hill issues.
I have written to Littlemore Parish Council hoping that it would take an interest in our area, as half the residents in Rose Hill pay the parish council tax. We see little return for this money.
Mr Boswell is well aware that the wheels of local government turn slowly, especially in areas like ours. When we can muster better support from tenants and residents, perhaps the council will take note.
Recently, the city council exhibited its future plans for Rose Hill in the Sure-Start Centre. They showed the 'Orlit' type houses to be replaced over a number of building phases. If agreement can be reached with tenants, I believe work will start in August.
There are many improvements we would like to see in Rose Hill but, as we are electorally linked with Iffley, we are unable to attract Government regeneration funds like other estates in the city. We want a 'Fair Deal for Rose Hill'.
