A series of road crashes brought chaos to the M40 over the weekend.

Yesterday morning, a crash victim was airlifted to hospital, following a collision between a car and a van.

One person was cut from the van by firefighters.

At 5.10pm, there was a five-car collision on the middle and inside lanes of the northbound carriageway, between junctions 10 at Ardley and 11 at Banbury junctions. Two lanes had to be closed for two hours, with drivers forced to use lane one and the hard shoulder.

Ambulance crews also dealt with a spate of accidents on the M40 on Saturday (January 24) afternoon when casualties suffered minor injuries.

One person was taken to The Horton Hospital, Banbury, after a car veered off the motorway between junctions 10 and 11. An ambulance spokesman said the injuries were not serious.

There were two further accidents on the north and southbound carriageways between junctions eight at Wheatley and nine at Wendlebury, causing minor injuries.

A driver was injured in a single-vehicle crash along the A424 between Burford and Fifield, at 9.50am on January 25.
