Pensioners in wheelchairs or scooters would welcome a zebra or pelican crossing being put down to help them get over a busy Bicester road.
The idea for a second crossing in Churchill Road came from town councillor John Cozens, following improvements made to a footpath, which runs from Longfields to housing estates off Churchill Road and Boston Road.
Mr Cozens, who lives in St Anthony's Walk near the footpath, said: "More pedestrians, particularly people in wheelchairs, use the path ever since the county council gave it a hard surface."
Scooter user Douglas Peverill, 75, of Duxford Close, Bicester, said: "It can be a death-defying dash to get across."
Andrew Hamilton, headteacher of Cooper School, also backed the need for another crossing.
He said: "Anything that increases the safety of our pupils must be welcomed."
