Abingdon Tn 2, Ware 1: Abingdon Town were made to sweat for victory against a Ware side who had three players sent off in Saturday's stormy Ryman Division 2 fixture.
Former Oxford United winger Joey Beauchamp, making his return in a Town shirt, raced clear in the 28th minute only to see his shot saved.
It was a rare moment of skill in a half punctuated by niggly fouls.
Abingdon took the lead two minutes after the break when Chris Johnson's dangerous corner flew straight in.
On 54 minutes, it was 2-0, Gary Tompkin hooking home his first goal for the club from another corner.
Four minutes later, Ware were reduced to ten men when Jim Hollingsworth was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Joey Beauchamp.
Town went close to increasing the lead, before Ware were reduced to nine men on 70 minutes.
Andy Crawford saw red for throwing a punch at Tom Butler, before defender Dave Greenwood received his marching orders.
Despite the blow, Ware pulled a goal back through John Frendo, while at the other end, Luke Beauchamp was unlucky to see his header come back off the crossbar.
Abingdon: Hearmon, Brewerton, Tompkin, Charles, Davis, Johnson, Scanes, Douglas, L Beauchamp, Clarke, J Beauchamp.
