Councillors are taking time out from politics to run a youth club on an Oxford estate.
Mick McAndrews and Dee Sinclair will help run the Risinghurst Youth Club at the estate's community centre every Wednesday night.
The county council youth service said it would cost more than £1,000 a year to run the club with paid staff. It has been manned by volunteers in the past, but a lack of support has meant it has not been able to open every week.
Mr McAndrews, who represents the Barton and Sandhills ward, said: "It will cost them £1,000 per year, £20 per week, to employ a youth worker to allow the club to open every Wednesday night.
"It appears they are not prepared to do that, so we are going to become volunteers."
Mrs Sinclair, a secondary school teacher and council member for the Quarry and Risinghurst ward, said: "I feel frustrated they haven't had a youth club since before Christmas.
"I caught up with some of the teenagers and they are really fed up that nothing is happening for them."
A youth service spokesman said: "We don't have a huge budget as far as youth workers are concerned and can't respond to every community in the county."
He added: "We do carry out a lot of work with volunteer youth workers, put them in touch with relevant associations and provide training."
