A man has surrendered himself to police in connection with trouble at Oxford United's Carling Cup clash with Reading last September.
The 42-year-old was questioned on suspicion of using threatening behaviour after CCTV photos of five men sought by police appeared in the media.
Officers revealed that media coverage had resulted in the identification of three of the five people.
The man has not been charged, but he will receive a summons to appear before magistrates if it is decided to prosecute.
Pc Simon Feist, Oxford police's football liaison officer, said: "The man, who has co-operated with our inquiries, surrendered himself voluntarily to police after acquaintances told him his face had appeared in the Oxford Mail.
"I'm very pleased with the response to releasing the pictures of these men and I would like to thank the Oxford Mail for the help it has given us.
"We are still appealing for information, however, and anyone who knows anything about any of the five individuals is urged to get in touch with us."
Bottles and missiles from a building site were hurled at police and officers were spat at during the Oxford United versus Reading game, at the Kassam Stadium on September 24.
Police tracked down eight of the 13 troublemakers but appealed for help catching the remaining five.
