GREEN group Sustainable Wallingford had such a success with their first Swap Shop they decided to repeat the exercise and targeted unwanted Christmas presents.

So at the Regal centre in Wallingford people came along with things they did not want and swapped them for things they did.

Not all the transactions were on an exchange basis - many went just to find things they wanted.

Members of Sustainable Wallingford weighed whatever was exchanged to tot up how much they had saved from going into landfill sites.

For the group, James Burton said: "We tried this first last year and had more than 300 people through the doors - and we got rid of more than 200 kilogrammes of potential landfill rubbish.

"We asked people this time to bring in their unwanted Christmas presents as well as any other things they would like to swap or get rid of.

"No money changes hands and it has proved a successful way of helping the environment."

The group campaigns on green issues like energy saving, waste management and other environmental concerns.
