Great Wakering 1, Thame Utd 1: Alex Stewart scored a late equaliser as Thame United recovered from their 5-0 midweek mauling by Ryman League Division 1 North form side Berkhamsted with a solid performance in Essex on Saturday.

With both defences in control, goalscoring opportunities were at a premium, although Thame were denied a penalty midway through the first half when Mark Jones had his shirt blatantly tugged when he was about to shoot. However, the referee waved away their protests.

Then two minutes before the break, Rovers went ahead against the run of play.

Jones made a half-hearted challenge on the edge of the box and the lively Toby Oshitola was able to drill a low shot past Steve Smith's despairing dive.

Thame came out for the second half in determined fashion and Stewart was unlucky to see a header flash wide.

It looked like Thame would go home empty-handed, but three minutes from time, Stewart fired home Tony Joyce's long-range free-kick.

Thame Utd: Smith, Mills, Joyce, Saulsbury, Williams, Avery, Perna, Mitchell, Stewart, Jones, Goffe (Death 75). Subs not used: Freeman, Hocking, Chowns.
