Carterton Town and Carterton Rangers football clubs are to merge next season, after an extraordinary general meeting of Rangers' members voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposal.
At a packed meeting, attended by 115 members at Black Bourton Social Centre, 112 voted in favour of the merger going ahead, with only three voting against.
It means that Rangers, Oxfordshire's biggest junior club, and Town, who play in the Hellenic League Premier Division, will join forces next season, with more than 30 teams playing under one banner.
Rangers' chairman Nick Truman said: "It is a very exciting prospect for the town. The new club will be very much community focussed, and although we won't be buying our way through the leagues, the potential here is huge, with possibly as many as 1500 members.
"There will be football for all people of all ages and abilities from cradle to grave."
