Oxford Hawks lost their first ten matches in English League Division 2 this season - but now they can't stop winning!

Hawks lifted themselves off the bottom with a convincing 4-2 win at Liverpool side Formby, their second victory in succession, and one of their best performances for a long time.

Hawks' early dominance was rewarded in the tenth minute when a run and cross from Dan Pilbeam fell to Tim Newton, who finished from five yards out.

The second half started with the introduction of Ali McShane into the forward line, and he quickly made his mark.

A strong run across the D from Tim Martin in the 38th minute ended with a pass to McShane, who slotted the ball past the goalkeeper with his first touch of the game.

Hawks' third goal was a little fortuitous.

A short corner flick from Scott Beach along the ground looked to be causing the goalkeeper little problem, but was deflected through his legs by a defender.

With little to lose, Formby threw everything at Hawks and scored two goals in quick succession through Simon Fox and David Seddon to set the nerves on edge.

But Hawks regained the initiative through a Beach short-corner strike.

If his first was a little lucky, his second was unstoppable as his drag flick whistled into the top corner.
