More than 120 new homes could be built on a college site in Thame, with the town's former workhouse being converted into 20 flats.

The plans for the Rycotewood College site in Oxford Road have been lodged with South Oxfordshire District Council by Newbury firm Kingscastle.

The college itself has merged with West Berkshire College and is moving out of the town.

The main building is Thame's former workhouse and since the 1920s there have been many additions to form extra classrooms and workshops.

The plan is to demolish all 20th century buildings and extensions to the original listed workhouse.

That would then be converted into 20 flats and three houses. On the rest of the site would be a development of 61 houses and 48 flats.

The developers said those figures would include 38 flats for the elderly and 33 affordable homes.

Thame Town Council has not yet discussed the plans.
